stupid blogger. :-)

So, I had everything ready on my last post and then went to add one little thing and went to publish it when blogger decided to revert to an older version... So, July and Aug were there, but now they will have to wait for their own post. :-)

May, June, July, Aug 2013 :-)

I guess I actually do have things to post about that I didn't post on Facebook.... :-) Be prepared for a book, I've been told I can't summarize very well. :-) sorry.

May
In May, Gus was called to be the Branch President of our Spanish Branch here. And no, we really don't speak Spanish, especially me. :-)  Gus is doing pretty good considering Spanish is similar to his native language, Portuguese, but mine is lacking. I understand a few things, but while chasing Lucas around, I don't get much time to even try to understand. I should study more at home to help myself, but I'm conflicted... I don't want to muddle up my little bit of Portuguese with Spanish because I want to be able to talk with Gus's family and make sure Lucas learns Portuguese also. But on the flip side, Spanish would be more useful here... And while most of the people in the branch speak a little English, there is a reason why the Spanish branch was created (we already have two English speaking wards here). So, whilst in the midst of my conflict, I do nothing... I also miss going to church with my parents. And having some one to help take care of Lucas. Sunday school and Relief Society are on the stage- which means that naturally, Lucas wants to go down the stairs he is to little for. And I get to jump up and run after him... So, we spend most of that time in the halls. Sacrament Meeting is last- and about 30 min after Lucas needs to go down for a nap... Sigh But Gus is enjoying himself and there are some nice people in the branch. I just kind of feel useless...

June
My baby turned one! Where did all the time go? Oh wait, let's back up to the last week in May/beginning of June. Gus, Lucas and I went to Dallas. Gus's mom (his dad had to work) wanted to come out for Lucas's birthday and she was flying into Dallas, where Gus's sister and her family live. So, instead of her flying here and splitting her time, we went there and got to also see Gus's sister and family. It was like an eight hour drive and Lucas did pretty good. We only stopped twice for gas. Towards the end though he just wanted to get out and finally fell sleep about 20 min before we got there. :-)  While there we mostly just hung out. We went swimming a couple of times and we had Gus's mom take family pictures and Lucas's one year pictures. He smiled so good for his one year photos, but when it came time for family pictures, no dice. :-(  Such a funny boy. He loved the balloons for the pictures and he loved his cakes. (Yes, plural :-)  ). He enjoyed playing with his cousins Emma and Adam and his Vovó (grandma). I was so worried that he wouldn't want anything to do with Gus's mom because besides Skype, the last time he saw her, he was two months old. But, he didn't have a problem and there wasn't an ounce of hesitation. He also like his Tia Juliana, who made him his cakes. :-)  While there, we also had some yummy BBQ that Tim and Gus cooked, and some yummy hamburgers that Tim and I made and he and Gus grilled. It was fabulous. Then we needed to come home. :-(  We were home for Lucas's actual birthday- which was on a Saturday. A very busy one at that. But we did get him a party with my family (Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Kristen), where he also had two cakes. :-). One was a train one that my mom made out of chocolate waffles and was so cute. I made a white one with raspberry jello that was delicious. He loved celebrating. We had a birthday banner that says one is fun. It might or might not still be on the wall... He loves pointing at it and he knows it's his.

blogging

I find it very interesting that I love reading people blogs and finding out what is going on in their lives, but I have a hard time actually just updating my own... :-) I guess I put just about everything on Facebook anyway- and I have a larger "audience" on Facebook than I do in the blogging world- so, I feel like everything would just be a repetition of what I had already mentioned if I blogged about it. and, by posting on Facebook, more of my friends can know the new (or what ever it is I feel like saying at that time...) oh life... Haha

updates!

I thought that maybe I'd update my blog. :-)  I figured I'd keep the blog around, but I still mostly post on Facebook. I've also tried not to spend as much time online, so that hasn't helped my blogging. anyway, on to the updates!

I'm not going to exactly break everything down month by month because I can't quite remember and I don't feel like looking it up. ;-)  OK, let's see... My baby is getting so big!, A week after Lucas turned 9 months, he took his first step, all by himself- he's been walking with our help since before he could crawl. Ever since then he has been practicing all the time and he is almost a pro. In the beginning his problem was that he got to excited and wanted to run, so after a few steps he would fall down. He has slowed down a little and is doing pretty good now- and he isn't even 11 months old yet!

Lucas is so smart too! And no, I'm not biased. ;-)  He knows where his and others people's nose and eyes are- and sometimes the mouth and teeth. He also knows where the nose is in English, Portuguese, and German. He knows many different things in all the languages- but we need to work more on the Portuguese though so that he can talk with his other grandparents. :-)

Lucas points at everything! Haha, his pointer finger is almost always out. It's so cute. When we ask him things he answers us with a nod off the head. He knows what he wants too!  He waves bye bye, and sometimes he will lead music too.  He loves to dance whenever he hears music, or sometimes even just noise... Haha Also if we ask him if he is "tinky"- stinky he waves his hand (just like his wave and music leading) because my mom started waving her hand in front of her nose and saying tinky when he was stinky... Hehe When she first started he thought it was so funny and just burst out laughing for a good solid 5 min every time she did it. I'll have to check if I have the video- it isn't good quality, but it's so funny to listen to him laugh.

Lucas loves being outside.  He grabs our hands and leads us to wherever he wants to go. He's started throwing little fits though when he doesn't get his way... Humm.... We'll have to work on that. He also is sleeping in his crib in his room now- he goes to sleep good, but sadly he still wakes up multiple times a night... It sure does get tiring sometimes. He is so sweet though. He gives us hugs and has such a sweet smile and a cute laugh. I love this boy so much! He is the light of our lives!

Nothing much has happen with Gus or me. Gus is still working at the same place without much change. He's still an awesome dad. Oh, he did also start training for a 5K. He's been doing pretty good.  I'm still losing weight and trying to be a better wife and mother. I've been trying new recipes and I think they've come out pretty good... We have a whole bunch of baby food that we got from WIC, both baby cereal and jarred fruit and veggies, so I've also been experimenting with recipes using those. I've made pancakes, bread, cookies, pasta and pasta sauce. I've also had to experiment more because Lucas can't have dairy, soy, or rice. We use almond milk and have been enjoying that pretty good- we also like coconut milk.

In February my youngest brother left for his mission to the Baltic. He is such a good boy. He's suppose to learn Russian and Lithuania . Sounds way to hard for me!  We pray for him so that he can learn the language's so that the people can hear the gospel in their own language.

At the end of May, Gus's mom is coming out to celebrate Lucas's first birthday. We are so excited. Gus's sister is also expecting their third child and we are so excited to have another cousin for Lucas. Well, Lucas woke up, so I better go!

Updates- Jan 2013

I thought that I'd just write down what I can remember real quick about the last month or so. December 19 Lucas got his first tooth and the second one came in the begining of Jan the twelth I believe.  I think we are working on a new one now, but haven't seen anything just quite yet. Oh, all of them are on the bottom.

At the beginning of January Lucas hadn't quite mastered crawling, but he's an old pro now. Although he would much rather hold on to your fingers and walk around. He could do that before he crawled. He can sit up by himself and pull himself up on his feet also.

He says Mamamama and what sounds like Mom. It is so cute. Gus is trying to get him to say Papa or Dada... ;-)  hehe

Oh! and he does "high five" it is so cute. He tries to do it now though when I'm trying to get him to go to sleep... Humm... haha

Lucas loves to read books. I have some pictures of him with a book my parents gave him, but i am currently not able to get them off the phone... Hopefully soon I will be able to. and he loves to eat paper, silly boy!

He favorite foods are veggie straws and what ever Mommy is eating. ;-)  He likes applesauce, pears, and plums. Peaches aren't too bad either, but he doesn't really like bananas, avocado, or green beans. Sweet potatoes and squash are OK. He likes meat too-chicken, beef, pork -it's all pretty good. He loves mango popcicles!!- yes, they are real fruit ones. :-) The first time he had one he cried when it was gone.

Lucas loves to be outside and around people- but mommy must be near. :-) He definitely is a Mommy's boy, but he loves his Daddy and Grandma and Uncle Jared too, and then Grandpa. ;-)  Well, that's all I can think of right now...

Lucas is the light of our lives and makes us all so happy! We don't know what we'd do without him!

blogging

So, I've been thinking about why I blog- I guess some could argue, why I don't blog. ;-)  I guess really it's just like an electronic journal, with pictures. I don't really have anything funny or interesting to say I just basically state what has happened in my life. and my life is pretty routine and boring. I've also been trying to write in my physical journal- trying to do both takes a lot of time and I often forget what I've said in one and not the other. Then there is Facebook- I don't post a whole lot there, but I do do it more often then I blog or get my journal written in. So, with that said, I think I need to consolidate somewhere. I do like having pictures to go with my journal entries... but, any of the good pictures I usually end up posting on Facebook anyways. Humm... well, I still need to think about what I'm going to do, but I think that I will either make my blog private or discontinue writing in it. My family in Brazil can see what's going on through Facebook and by actually talking to us. I guess I'll let you all (not that there are very many of you) know what I decide. For now, I'll leave you with pictures of my sweet little boy!
