October- 4 months!!
Oh my baby is getting soo big and I just love him more and more each day! So on the 9th Lucas went in for his four month check-up. He wasn't able to see his regular doctor though because she was going to be out until the 22nd- today- so, we saw another doctor in the clinic. Lots of things happened at the doctors appointment, let me see if I can remember them all and get them all in... ;)
My poor boy got his shots, but was so good. He only screamed for like 30 sec. afterwards and like 5 min later I had him laughing and he didn't seem to have any other problems (like sore legs or what not). Such a sweet boy!
He weighed 13 lbs 7.5 oz and is 24 1/4in. long. This puts him in the 21st percentile... Gus is worried that he isn't big enough, but the doctors aren't. They said that he is small but is in his same growth pattern that he has been in since birth. If he had dipped down then they would be concerned. Although I found out that when he was born at 7lb 5.5 oz that was only the 34%- I thought it would be more average... oh well. The doctor said if at his six month appt he was still down then maybe they would be more worried... I think he is perfect and getting to big anyway! ;)
The doctor also said that he could start solids now. I was surprised, I thought that they would be waiting until six months, but apparently it is 4 to 6 months- so starting after the fourth month. He said to start with rice cereal and I also asked about sweet potatoes and he said that that would be good. So that day we got some baby food and tried it. He ate it fine, but his tummy didn't seem to feel so good after that. So, we waited another day and then tried it again- he ate even better, but his tummy still seemed to not like it too much. So, we are just going to wait a bit longer- although he is getting more and more interested in what we are eating and wanting it too...
We tried sweet potatoes a few days later and he seemed to really like them. Here is a picture of that.
I also asked the doctor about his reflux because he was on his last bottle of Zantac and needed a refill. This doctor didn't seem to think he needed it and said that starting the solids will help him and he should be good. I kind of felt like he just blew me off, but I thought, "Well, maybe it will. Let's try it." Just to be on the safe side though I asked if I should just call in if he does need the refill and the doctor was like "I guess, ya." Humm... anyway- that brings us to a week later...
So a week later he seemed to really not be feeling well. He started not eating well- he would pull off and had started arching his back again. He was also really whiny. He also had started spitting up a lot more and it stunk really bad. Finally on Thursday I wasn't satisfied with the doctors response and decided not to wait until his doctor get back (she's the one who diagnosed him in the first place). I asked around about a doctor that people liked and tried to get into see her, but they couldn't get me in until Friday morning. While that is actually pretty quick, when your baby doesn't feel good and isn't eating right, it seems like forever. On Friday the doctor saw him (I liked both her and her nurse- she actually has been my favorite nurse of all). (Oh, did I mention that Lucas was up every two hours during the night??) She agreed that he needed something and decided to prescribe him Prevacid solutabs. They said to give the pharmacy an hour and a half to fill the prescription. So, 3 hours later I go to pick-up the prescription and it isn't there... Apparently it isn't covered by our insurance so they have to get a doctors authorization... I called the doctors office and they said that they'd go and talk to someone and get back with me. It took them a few hours and when they called they said that it would be 3-4 working days before it would be approved and for now I could give him 1cc of Zantac twice a day. What? That's next Thursday! and I was already giving him 1.3cc's twice a day... Oh, they thought it was 1.3 once a day... and apparently that's the max dosage for his weight so they can't really do anything else. But if it's too bad I could bring him in the next day (Saturday) because that same doctor was working. Why do I have to bring him back in? What would they do that they couldn't do now?? Anyway, someone mentioned that I could maybe just pay for the meds and then be reimbursed. So, I called the pharmacy and asked what the cash price was and about reimbursement... $279.00 for the meds!!!! What?!?!? and you can only be reimbursed if it has been authorized already... (well, why would you pay for it if it has been authorized?) Ya, I don't have that kind of cash just hanging around... Poor baby. Luckily he seemed to be a little better on Saturday, so we didn't go in. We are just waiting now. Sunday was worse then Saturday and today seems to be bad too- but he has been sleeping for most of the day. Which I'm glad for because besides needing the sleep- I woke up on Sunday with a heavy chest and kind of a sore throat. My voice sounds funny. Today I've been coughing more and have a bad headache. I sure hope Lucas doesn't get it, but last night his nose has sounded kind of stuffy... My poor boy.
Well, I think that's all I have for now. Sorry if everything seems to be about my beautiful baby, but as a stay at home Mom, that's kind of my life right now. ;) and I love being able to be home with my baby thanks to my wonderful husband who works so hard for us!

Here is a video of him eating rice cereal for the second time. Sorry the quality isn't too good. It was done on my phone and it doesn't have a very good camera.
Here he is about ready to eat rice cereal.
